Moments before a bullet from a lever-action .30-30-caliber rifle knocked rancher Dennis Beach off his horse and killed him, he was arguing about who owned four stray cows.
His son, Travis, ran at the gunman, wrestled the rifle away and pulled the trigger even though snow clogged its telescopic sight, according to a court affidavit.
